Do you Feel Stressed?

Jenna, a marketing manager at a fast-paced advertising agency, finds herself increasingly overwhelmed by her mounting workload. With several major campaigns looming, her inbox overflowing with urgent emails, and her phone buzzing with constant notifications, she struggles to prioritise tasks. Her team is short-staffed  leaving her to pick up extra responsibilities. Despite working late into the night and skipping lunch and breaks, she feels she can't keep up with the demands. The pressure to meet tight deadlines, combined with a lack of support and the fear of underperforming, leaves her feeling anxious, exhausted, and unable to focus, exacerbating her stress and affecting her overall well-being. She has begun to have emotional outbursts...

What is Stress?

Stress is a psychological and physiological response to external pressures or demands, which can be real or perceived. It is the body's way of reacting to any kind of challenge or threat. When you feel threatened, your body undergoes a series of responses, often referred to as the "fight-or-flight" response, which involves the release of hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones prepare the body to either confront or flee from the threat.

Here are the key points about stress:

  1. Types of Stress:

    • Acute Stress: Short-term stress that arises from specific events or situations. It can be positive (eustress) or negative (distress).

    • Chronic Stress: Long-term stress that persists over an extended period. It can have detrimental effects on health and well-being.

  2. Causes of Stress:

    • External Factors: Work pressures, financial difficulties, relationship issues, major life changes, environmental factors, etc.

    • Internal Factors: Personal attitudes, beliefs, expectations, and psychological conditions.

  3. Symptoms of Stress:

    • Physical: Headaches, muscle tension, fatigue, sleep disturbances, gastrointestinal issues, etc.

    • Emotional: Anxiety, irritability, depression, mood swings, etc.

    • Behavioural: Changes in appetite, withdrawal from social activities, increased use of alcohol or drugs, etc.

  4. Effects of Stress:

    • Short-term: Can improve focus and performance in certain situations.

    • Long-term: Can lead to serious health problems such as cardiovascular diseases, weakened immune system, mental health disorders, heart disease, high blood pressure, sexual issues, sleep problems and more.

  5. Stress Management:

    • Techniques: Exercise, relaxation techniques (such as meditation and deep breathing), time management, hobbies, social support, professional hypnotherapy.

    • Lifestyle Changes: Healthy diet, adequate sleep, regular physical activity, reducing caffeine and alcohol intake.

Understanding and managing stress is crucial for maintaining overall health and well-being.

Hypnotherapy can be Effective for Stress Reduction

Hypnotherapy can be an effective method for alleviating stress and burnout by helping individuals achieve deep relaxation and access their subconscious mind to address underlying issues. Through guided hypnosis, I can assist clients in altering negative thought patterns and behaviours that contribute to their stress. This therapeutic approach can enhance coping mechanisms, reduce anxiety, and promote a sense of calm and well-being. Additionally, hypnotherapy can aid in improving sleep quality, increasing self-confidence, and fostering a more positive outlook, ultimately helping individuals manage stress more effectively and recover from burnout. Other techniques such as Anchoring, Reframing and 'Right-sizing' a client's fears are also utilised.
